Halloween Costumes! There's still time!

Ages ago I got asked to review amazing costume website www.joke.co.uk. This is a website I have used many a time for costumes for photo shoots and burlesque bits and bobs. Also for stuff for the kids too. Their selection is massive. I agreed to do the review before I started my current job at the RVI in Newcastle, but by the time it had all been finalised I'd started doing days where I got up at 5:30am and I don't get to sit down until 8pm so I've had little time nor energy for blogging. my own personal blog has taken a nosedive which is a shame because it was something I genuinely used to enjoy.

At the beginning of this year I planned to do a 2013 Dee La Beau Geek and Gamer Calender but sadly that has taken a back seat too and it is more likely that this will be a project I see into 2014 instead. I did however get two images for my calender using epic costumes from www.joke.co.uk. My next purchase from them will be their 80's Official Street Figther Chun Li costume, as it is perfect for my calender and also a little bit suggestive!

I did a shoot with friend and awesome photographer Richard Shepherd at local Mayfield Studio for my calender using Joke's Secret Wishes Ghostbuster costume. At £34.99 this is a fab way to look like a foxy Ghostbuster gal for your Halloween party. The fabric of the costume is awesome and soft, my only real complaint is that this wouldn't be suitable for anyone who has no bust and also the armbands were very very tight so if I wear it again I will probably need to snip them to loosen them and I don't think myself to have particularly fat arms.

Also a while back I treated myself to the Harley Quinn costume from Joke about 18 months ago. I know that at £45.99 you might think it's bit steep but it's very high quality and the fit was perfection based on their size charts. It's not currently available on the site, bet lots of foxy ladies have been getting it for Halloween, but it's well worth the wait and it is super sexy. I wore this for my engagement shoot, again with Richard Shepherd, and naturally my fiancĂ© was Joker, this one is currently available on Joke.

This costume website is the best one I have every had to used, their speed and quality service cannot be beaten along with their epic selection of costumes you are pretty much guaranteed to get what you are looking for from this website. They also stock some fantastic deluxe costumes, the Star Wars ones such as this Boba Fett one is of particular interest to me, for £826 I'm sure it is like being in the movie! The also stock some excellent ideas for couples such as Neo and Trinity (Matrix) Combo & He-Man and She-ra Costume Combo!

Also for women who are conscious about their shape there is 'Shaper Costumes' that have an element of shape wear in that pull you in and make the most of your assets so you can both look and feel super sexy. There are a few which are accurate homages to the costumers wore by Katy Perry, I also adore their Female Clown Costume

Good news is also that you still have 19 hours from now to get your hands on these (in stock) costumes in time for Halloween!  I'm sure you all have some fab parties and nights out for Halloween this week and next weekend! If you have been wanting to get a costume but you have been putting it off, or maybe you haven't found what you have been looking for, now is the time to check out www.joke.co.uk.

My Top 10 of 2011

Just thought I'd briefly blog my 10 favourite images of 2011. I have been so honoured to work with so many amazing people, and meet so many people and I have to say Catalyst Latex made my year, they're support of me has boosted my confidence and the work I have done for them has helped me become a better model. I have had many different hair colours, my weight has fluctuated as it always does. I'm going to try and not ramble too much so here we go, in no particular order....

1. This shot was taken by a lovely lady photographer Dawn Gilfillan at Mayfield Studio, she wanted to do some pin up shots of me so I just packed my case up with a massive selection of vintage style undies and got some fab shots. This is one of the best ones and this shot is also at the back of my current set of business cards.

2. This image was actually taken back in January by my friend and one of my favourite photographers, Richard Shepherd at Banana Studio. It was just after I'd dyed my hair blue and I hadn't really got the hang of it yet. The colours pop in this shot though and it was featured on the 'Hot Chicks in Star Wars T-shirts' blog.

3. In my purple haired phase, I did my very first shoot for Catalyst Latex with my partner Nicholas Gray, again at Mayfield Studio. It was all very rushed thanks to City Link who apparently can't read nor co-operate. However I love this shot and I felt really good about myself after these were edited and uploaded. Probably also helped by the fact we used a fabulous MUA, Alex Pretswell

4. This image was only taken last month by another fabulous photographer I have worked with many times Mr Jonathan Keys. It's not actually the most flattering picture of me, but I am enjoying the attitude and it's probably one of my favourite black and white images of myself.

5. I was lucky enough to do a proper bridal shoot with a real faux groom and everything, this was done in York, with wedding photographers Tux and Tales Photography and my husband was Pete Von Stanton, probably the best thing I have ever discovered on Model Mayhem, I don't think I have managed to get any other shoots through that site. The photographer really wanted to create an 'alternative feel' wedding and I think we succeeded.

6. I finally got to work with a couple of photographers that I have appreciated from afar, well...online, for literally years. The first of these photographers is Sam and Gregg Jamieson of Wicked Heart Photography. They have shot amazing images off all the most well known North East burlesque artists and some of the nicest models. I have shot with them twice and they are such absolutely lovely people, they make me feel good about my posing and how I look and it gives you a high!

7. The second photographer who I hadn't really had a chance to shoot with mostly because our timetables never match up is Chris Harrison of Grime and Glamour. He is good craic, and I feel comfortable talking to him about what I want from images. I haven't yet done any studio shots with him but I would like to some time in the future. Our best images were from our first shoot on location got lots off odd looks from taxi drivers, I also got to meet Anthony Dorman who is a sterling chap and you should check out his photography also.

8. I did a super quick shoot with amazing photographer Brian James (aka Derk German) his images are powerful and he very much has his own style. It was a very enjoyable shoot although it last for about 20-25 mins top. Hopefully I can convince him to work with me again sometime preferably outdoors.

9. I have suddenly cracked out a few shoots with Sam Corban over the last few months, he's a cheeky wee scamp that boy, always singing, always dancing, always swinging a ring flash in your face. He didn't take many modelly shots at our group shoot at Banana Studio however he got this shot of me which I love and it's my main image on my Purestorm account and will remain that way until someone can top it.

10. Lastly but not leastly, I have enjoyed a couple of shoots with Meg of Spellbound Imagery. She is such a lovely gal and her family and pooches are fantabulous too. My favourite shot taken by her of me is probably one from the studio shoot in Banana, it shows off my tattoo really well and it looks like I am totally singing.

BAM! THWACK! KAPOW!

I make no secret of the fact I am a geek, was a great way of pulling intellectual smelly guys in High School and that is pretty much what I go for. I also believe geeks are generally nice people, in the same way 'Grrr men' unite via football, geeks have converse about comics, computer games and movies. So I was totally delighted when my wonderful boyfriend asked me to pose as a Superhero last year for his 'This Summer' set. This was the image of me which was shown on German billboards. I am gutted that this costume is way too big on me now.

My boyfriend Nicholas Gray, has started editing images such as these in the comic styley. although I am quite obviously biased, I think they are absolutely awesome.

Here is me as Senorita Cleavage

'Morphine' aka model and all round studmuffin Jason McCullagh

Lastly and my favourite stunning Ashleigh as 'Heartbreaker'

To see full size versions of these images, swing by Nicholas' flickr. If you want an image of yourself comicked up drop him an email at mail@nicholasgray.net for a quote.

On a completely separate note of comicness. I discovered these on Etsy, fabulous designer called Janine Basil does some amazing comic themed headpieces! If Senorita Cleavage's uniform fitted her anymore she would be all over these! FYI my birthday is on the 16th of March.

Attempt at being a Geek Goddess

So it's not everyday I mooch down the Quayside with a Nerf gun in a skirt so short it is no longer really classed as a skirt. At 24 I should be utterly ashamed of myself.

I had a shoot with Adrian Wilson, had a fabulous time and here are some of my favourite images from the session.

Is it really still January!?

This has been the longest month ever! Can't wait for next month, it's short we don't have to pay council tax what's not to love?

I got some fantabulous pics from Christine Patterson from two shoots I did with her last year. All really different, I have kind decided I don't have a face for head shots though, my face is just all a bit weird and my eyes are too uneven.

My family is still having a tough time, I feel a bit like glue just holding it all together, passing on messages, giving my opinions I am finding it quite tiring. Especially when I have my own stuff going on and find it difficult to talk about and can't discuss it with them.

I really miss role playing, might have to round up some geek types in Berwick and see if we could start something up round our house, we are the only people with kids so it makes sense to have it at ours.

I am trying to do some music again too, no photographers in Berwick-upon-Tweed means that I can't really shoot all that often, I have done it a couple of times but I hate getting on the train by myself and leaving the kids. God knows what I am going to be like when I start Uni.

Already looking forward to my birthday! Ordering my present from my hubby from La Magia tomorrow. I'll save all that for another blog.
